Birds of Canada Series $100 Note

The second note to feature the optical security device was the $100 note, printed by British American Bank Note Company and issued in December 1990. The portrait of Sir Robert Borden, Prime Minister from 1911 to 1920, that appears on the face was engraved by Yves Baril. The parliamentary vignette shows the Centre Block with the Union Jack flying from the Peace Tower. The Union Jack was flown from federal buildings from 1904 until 1945 when an Order-in-Council authorized the use of a new Red Ensign carrying the shield from the Canadian coat of arms. The back of the note features the Canada goose.
